Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) South seeks a Public Safety Officer to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The role covers high-visibility patrols, emergency response, behavioral health support, and access control across the campus.

The officer works independently and as part of the Public Safety team, delivering exceptional customer service while enforcing policies and documenting incidents in a timely, professional manner.

Qualifications

• Pass pre-employment screenings including medical/physical exam.
• Professionalism, integrity, and interpersonal skills with compassion and respect.
• Strong English communication in stressful or dynamic situations.
• Make sound decisions and remain composed when interacting with escalated individuals.
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and ability to obtain MA FID or LTC.
• Required education: High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct high-visibility patrols of BMC South buildings and grounds; identify hazards, enforce policies, and ensure safety.
• Respond to emergencies and behavioral health incidents with de-escalation techniques.
• Prepare clear, objective incident reports and communicate with supervisors and clinical partners.
• Manage access control and visitor policies; verify identifications and restrict unauthorized individuals.
• Investigate safety concerns and potential incidents; secure evidence and gather initial information.
• Operate the Public Safety Desk/Control Center when assigned; monitor systems and coordinate responses.
