Job summary

Stormont Vail Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to provide blood specimen collection in acute care settings, including ED/Trauma and surgical areas. You will collect venipuncture and capillary samples, manage orders in the EMR, and handle specimen transport per IATA rules.

Travel to outreach sites may be required. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, phlebotomy training, and preferred hospital experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program may substitute.
• Experience in phlebotomy or hospital setting preferred.
• Knowledge of EMR systems and patient privacy guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and identify blood specimens via venipuncture/capillary puncture for all ages.
• Access and print test orders from EMR; transcribe outside orders as needed.
• Prepare specimens for transport per IATA regulations and perform waived point-of-care tests.
• Instruct patients on collection procedures and answer questions; maintain privacy.
• Follow Phlebotomist Service Standards and demonstrate teamwork.
• Assist with teaching phlebotomy interns and trainees.
• Collect specimens for legal blood alcohol/drug tests and testify if subpoenaed.
• Maintain and monitor laboratory supply stock; respond to adverse reactions.
