Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Pharmacy Technician Trainee License through West Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
• Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician through PTCB or NHA or must be obtained prior to temporary license expiration.

Responsibilities

• Fills medication orders and carts for distribution to patient floors; exchanges medication from carts daily.
• Prepackages special medications into unit-dose form with pharmacists verification; packages tablets, liquids, and suppositories with accurate documentation.
• Delivers medications and intravenous solutions to nursing stations and other departments as necessary; collects discontinued/expired medications and maintains distribution records.
• Refills automated dispensing device; troubleshoots devices; distributes medications to Emergency Room, Outpatient Department, surgery after pharmacist verification; maintains records.
• Processes discharges and transfers; accurately charges and credits patient medications including controlled substances; maintains adequate levels of medications and supplies.
• Maintains pharmacy workroom cleanliness; assists in storing supplies; inspects stock for expirations.
• Operates Pyxis system; generates reports; reconciles discrepancies; serves as Pyxis trouble shooter.

Education
