Advocate Health seeks a Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists in a hospital setting at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - Pharmacy. You will help prepare and label medications, support distribution tasks, and maintain accurate documentation across diverse duties in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, completion of a national certification within 18 months, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must obtain Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or NHA ExCPT within 18 months from start date.
• No work experience required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to rotate shifts including mornings and evenings.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
• Accurately select, prepare, and label medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assist with medication distribution tasks and ensure proper routing of calls.
• Screen calls and route as needed using proper etiquette.
• Participate in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checks.
• Complete documentation for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances as applicable.
• Perform nonsterile compounding following USP standards; prepare sterile IV admixtures where applicable.
• Inspect storage areas for adherence to policies and ensure age-appropriate care.
• Record medication admission histories and enter data into the pharmacy system for record-keeping.
• Support leaders with goals and tasks; participate in quality improvement initiatives.
