Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, TX is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist the Pharmacist in delivering pharmaceutical care by performing technical and clerical duties in the pharmacy.

You will select medications, load the automated dispensing system (PYXIS), monitor inventory, deliver meds to patient care areas, and prepare sterile products when needed. A High School diploma or GED and Texas pharmacy registration are required; IV certification preferred for sterile compounding.

Qualifications

• Education: Must be a minimum of 18 years of age, and High School Diploma or GED required
• Licenses/Certifications: Pharmacy tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration with Texas State Board required; IV certification preferred
• Experience/Knowledge/Skills: 1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred; knowledge of medical terminology

Responsibilities

• Selects prescribed medications according to dosage and strength indicated on patient medication file or cart-fill list
• Receives merchandise and places into inventory
• Monitors for out-of-stock or out-of-date inventory
• Delivers medications to patient care areas
• Inspects and maintains emergency medication trays
• Packages and labels unit doses and maintains pre-pack records
• Loads drugs into PYXIS; maintains inventory for non-automated areas
• Responds to medication requests from nursing staff and other departments
• Ensures safety checks and sterile product preparation when applicable
• Prepares sterile products in aseptic manner when appropriate
• Gathers medication history and assists customers as a liaison
