Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to support the hospital-wide unit-dose drug distribution system and IV admixture program under pharmacist supervision. You will assist in preparing IV meds, processing routine orders, and maintaining inventory, while ensuring HIPAA compliance and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a School of Pharmacy or foreign pharmacy graduate.
• Applied for a Pharmacy Intern license within PA within 120 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assesses medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Procures and distributes medication orders per policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Under pharmacist supervision, fills routine orders for unit dose carts and prepackaged meds, and prepares IV admixture, antibiotics, and chemotherapy.
• Maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies according to policies via inspections and automated dispensing units.
• Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies; restocks medications and IV area.
• Compounds, stocks, repackages and batches from bulk medications.
• Prepares routine IV meds including compounding, preparation, and labeling of IV admixtures.
• Maintains competence and assists in training new employees.
• Contributes to department operations including computer tasks, labels, and answering phones.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
• Participates in performance improvement and regulatory compliance.
• Maintains an attitude of safety and adheres to HIPAA and privacy policies.
