Job summary

Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Intern to assist in the hospital-wide unit-dose distribution and IV admixture program. Under direct pharmacist supervision, you will prepare IV medications, fill routine unit-dose orders, and support daily pharmacy operations.

You will review medication orders for accuracy, help maintain inventory, and participate in compliance and quality improvement efforts to ensure safe patient care.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a School of Pharmacy or Foreign pharmacy graduate and has applied for a Pharmacy Intern license within the state of PA within 120 days of hire

Responsibilities

• Uses clinical skills to assess medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Under direct supervision of a pharmacist, fills routine patient orders for unit dose carts and prepackaged pharmaceuticals, preparing, compounding and labeling IV admixture, antibiotics, cardiac drips, solutions, irrigations, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy.
• Maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies through inspections, use of automated dispensing units and medication supplies; restocks medications and IV dispensing area; prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages.
• Compounds, stocks, repackages and batches from bulk medications; prepares routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals including compounding, preparation, and labeling of IV admixtures including antibiotics, solutions, irrigations, narcotics, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy.
• Maintains competence and can train new employees and students.
• Contributes to department operations through computer functions, cart fill lists, pick lists, refill medications, labels, and phone communications; maintains a clean, orderly work environment.
• Participates in quality improvement and regulatory compliance efforts; monitors processes and results; maintains a safety‑oriented attitude.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
