Position Overview

Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL is recruiting for a Hospital Outpatient Coder. This full-time remote position is available for Florida residents and select other states. The role involves reviewing, analyzing, and assigning codes for diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

1. Determine proper codes and modifiers for all billable services following coding guidelines and regulations.
2. Analyze and review medical records to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for insurance billing.
3. Code 100% of medical records for each assigned clinic or encounter type, adhering to quality and productivity standards.
4. Manage time effectively to ensure accurate coding and timely audits.
5. Identify and communicate coding issues to supervisors.
6. Perform query processes to clarify documentation as needed.
7. Maintain current credentials and skills in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• At least 2 years of outpatient coding experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS in multiple outpatient specialties.
• Certifications: CCS, CPC, CPMA, COC, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, or equivalent.

Skills and Training

• Experience coding hospital electronic medical records.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with automated coding systems (Cerner, OPTUM, 3M, Soarian).
• Proficiency with MS Office tools.
• Knowledge of coding guidelines and ethical standards from AHA, CMS, AHIMA, and AAPC.
