Acute Care Hospital Outpatient Medical Records Coder

This position involves coding accurately and efficiently with abstraction of outpatient medical records to meet hospital reimbursement, indexing, and statistical requirements. Maintaining high standards of production and accuracy is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Code diagnoses and procedures documented in medical records according to official coding guidelines and reimbursement standards.
• Use Computer Assisted Coding software following assigned workflows.
• Abstract required data accurately into the coding system.
• Follow AHIMA guidelines for coding queries and assist in documentation clarification.
• Support special projects and reporting as needed.
• This is a remote position, contingent upon meeting training, production, and quality standards.
• Promote a safe environment and adhere to privacy and confidentiality standards.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in RHIT or Bachelor Degree in RHIA.
• 2-3 years of outpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital.
• Knowledge of APC/EAPG required; experience with 3M Encoder, Cerner, Meditech, or Optum preferred.
• Certified as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS.
