Position Overview

We are seeking experienced and credentialed outpatient coders to join our team. The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail and extensive knowledge of medical terminology. This is a fully remote position with a flexible schedule, allowing you to shape the future of healthcare from your own workspace.

Preferred Experience: ED Observation and Hospital Observation, preferably at an Academic or Level I Trauma hospital. Solid injection and infusion coding experience is also preferred.

Responsibilities
  1. Review medical records and assign accurate diagnoses and procedure codes.
  2. Assign and sequence codes based on documentation.
  3. Determine and assign the appropriate discharge disposition.
  4. Abstract and input coded data for hospital reporting and statistics.
  5. Communicate documentation and coding issues for follow-up and resolution.
  6. Maintain a 95% accuracy rate in coding and APC assignment, meeting productivity standards.
  7. Track continuing education credits to maintain professional credentials.
  8. Participate in health-sponsored education and training sessions.
  9. Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in job responsibilities.
  10. Communicate effectively with colleagues, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
  11. Adhere to the AHIMA code of ethics and uphold professionalism and customer service standards.
  12. Manage complex work functions and decisions efficiently.
  13. Possess strong organizational and teamwork skills.
  14. Be willing and able to travel if necessary.
  15. Follow all HIM division policies.
Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, CRC) credentials.
  • Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
  • Ability to pass annual HIPAA and other required testing.
  • Proficiency in coding specialties such as ED, Same Day Surgery, Ancillary, Observation, Injections/Infusions, E/M leveling.
  • Minimum of 2 years coding experience in a hospital or consulting role.
  • Effective communication in English.

Additional Preferred Experience: ED and Hospital Observation at an Academic or Level I Trauma hospital, with solid injection and infusion coding experience.
