Job summary

The Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, seeks a Cook to plan, prepare and serve meals for residents, staff and visitors in a fast, sanitary kitchen. You will follow planned menus, standardized recipes and dietary requirements while maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.

You will supervise kitchen staff, assist in serving meals, and ensure timely delivery, proper portioning and food temps.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Suffolk/Nassau County Food Handler's Certificate or ServSafe Certificate
• Completion of a 120hour Food Service Manager Program preferred
• 2 years' experience as a cook in a nursing home or similar setting

Responsibilities

• Respond to the special needs of groups served based on age, language, culture and dietary requirements
• Review menus prior to preparation and follow standardized recipes
• Prepare and serve meals that are palatable, properly portioned and within diet restrictions
• Ensure trays, temperatures and food temps meet standards; maintain sanitation
• Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental recipes
• Keep work areas clean and equipment stored properly; support catering events

Basic computer skills

Education

Food Service Manager program (120 hours) preferred
