Job summary

Good Samaritan Hospital, part of Catholic Health, is seeking a cook to plan, prepare and serve meals for residents, staff and visitors. The role emphasizes sanitation, portion control, and adherence to dietary requirements while maintaining clean work areas and supporting hospital nutrition services.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, some food-safety certifications, and relevant cooking experience in healthcare settings; beneficial to have a Food Service Manager

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Suffolk/Nassau County Food Handler's Certificate or ServSafe Certificate required.
• Completion of a 120 hour Food Service Manager Program preferred.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• 2 years' experience as a cook in a nursing home or similar setting.

Responsibilities

• Responds to the special needs of each group served by age, language, culture etc.
• Review menus prior to preparation of food.
• Prepares meals in accordance with planned menus and recipes.
• Maintains sanitation and proper food temperatures and portions.
• Inspects trays for appearance and palatability and adherence to diets.
• Ensures supplies are stocked and deliveries checked in.
• Maintains department records such as food temps.
• Exhibits proficiency in catering special events.
