Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking an HVAC/R Technician I to maintain and repair hospital systems, including steam, chillers, and air handling equipment. You will troubleshoot, inspect and ensure compliance with state and Joint Commission standards in a 24/7 hospital setting.

Applicants should have a Journeyman program completion, five years of HVAC/R experience, and a Universal Refrigeration License. This role requires flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Journeyman program.
• Five (5) years of HVAC/R experience.
• Universal Refrigeration License (non-automotive).
• Working knowledge of heating and cooling air handling systems.
• Fluid systems and brazing techniques experience.
• Adherence to safety regulations.
• Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and operate HVAC/R equipment including chillers, air handling systems, steam systems and cooling towers.
• Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe per work requests.
• Study drawings and manuals to diagnose equipment issues.
• Maintain valves, fittings and steam regulating systems.
• Repair shell and tube heat exchangers and related equipment.
• Perform urgent and routine repairs of HVAC/R and hot water systems.
• Maintain records to show compliance with regulations.
• Prepare stock and project material lists.
• Document preventive maintenance accurately.
• Support HIPAA and ethics compliance and confidentiality.
