Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking an HVAC/R Technician I to inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain the hospital's HVAC, refrigeration, steam and related equipment. You will work under supervision in the Engineering department to keep patient care systems safe, compliant and operational 24/7.

Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing a wide range of systems, studying drawings, and preparing maintenance and parts lists.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of a Journeyman program.
• Five years of HVAC/R experience.
• Universal Refrigeration License (non-automotive).
• Knowledge of heating and cooling air handling systems.
• Knowledge of fluid systems and brazing techniques.
• Thorough knowledge of and adherence to safety regulations.
• Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
• Problem-solving skills and adaptability.
• Time management and multi-tasking.
• Strong customer service and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and troubleshoot HVAC/R equipment including steam turbines, chillers, air handling systems and related components.
• Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to work requests.
• Study engineering drawings and manuals to diagnose equipment problems.
• Maintain valves, fittings and steam and hot water systems.
• Prepare preventive maintenance documentation and stock parts lists.
• Document compliance and safety records.
