Job summary

Howard University Hospital seeks an HVAC/R Technician I to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and supervise a broad range of hospital HVAC, steam and refrigeration systems. The role supports patient safety and compliance with Joint Commission standards while working under supervision in the Engineering department.

Responsibilities include system diagnostics, preventive maintenance, parts management and documentation.

Qualifications

• HVAC/R systems experience: 5+ years.
• Universal Refrigeration License (non-automotive).
• High school diploma or GED; Journeyman program completed.
• Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions; adhere to safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, install and repair HVAC/R equipment including chillers, heat exchangers, AHUs, fans, piping and towers.
• Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe per work requests.
• Study drawings and manuals to diagnose equipment issues.
• Maintain valves and fittings in steam, hot water, heating and cooling systems.
• Record preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Prepare parts lists and project material lists.
• Support HIPAA and codes while handling confidential information.
