Job summary

UCLA Health in Los Angeles seeks an HVAC Operating Engineer for the Resnick Mental Campus. You will maintain and repair HVAC systems, emergency generators, and related building infrastructure across inpatient and outpatient facilities, ensuring reliable operations and compliance with licensing standards.

The role requires EPA 608 certification, ability to read blueprints and manuals, and strong communication skills. Overtime and weekend shifts are possible; PPE is required to perform duties.

Qualifications

• EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certificate is required.
• English proficiency to read, write and report.
• Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing and electrical codes including NFPA/ASHRAE, Title 24, OSHA and ADA.
• Ability to read specifications, blueprints and manuals.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; maintain cooperative relationships.
• Perform preventive/planned maintenance with standard equipment and basic software.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and wear PPE; stand, walk, climb and crawl as needed.
• Overtime and varied shifts including nights and weekends available.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair HVAC equipment, emergency generators, sewer vacuum and medical air equipment.
• Document preventative maintenance and engineering rounds for license compliance.
• Work among patients, staff and visitors with professionalism.
• May be assigned to alternate schedules including weekends.
