Job summary

UCLA Health in Los Angeles seeks an HVAC Operating Engineer for the Resnick Mental Campus. You will maintain and repair HVAC systems, emergency generators, and related building infrastructure across inpatient and outpatient facilities, ensuring reliable operations and compliance with licensing standards.

The role requires EPA 608 certification, ability to read blueprints and manuals, and strong communication skills. Overtime and weekend shifts are possible; PPE is required to perform duties.

Qualifications

• EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certificate is required.
• English proficiency to read, write and report.
• Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing and electrical codes including NFPA/ASHRAE, Title 24, OSHA and ADA.
• Ability to read specifications, blueprints and manuals.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; maintain cooperative relationships.
• Perform preventive/planned maintenance with standard equipment and basic software.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and wear PPE; stand, walk, climb and crawl as needed.
• Overtime and varied shifts including nights and weekends available.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Senior Superintendent, perform the full range of journey level functions of a HVAC Operating Engineer in the Resnick Mental Campus located in the Los Angeles Mil-Wilshire District. Buildings include an all-electric inpatient psychiatric hospital, an outpatient medical office building and a parking structure. Job duties include maintenance and repair of building equipment and infrastructure including HVAC equipment, emergency generators, sewer vacuum equipment, medical air and vacuum equipment, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, heat-recovery chillers, and more. Included in this job is documentation of preventative maintenance and engineering rounds critical to maintaining hospital license accreditation. Job requires working among patience, staff and visitors. Ability to maintain a level of professionalism a must. Additionally, incumbent may be assigned to alternate work schedules, including weekends.

Salary rate: $52.26

Qualifications

• EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certificate required.
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English to
  carry out job duties and complete clear, accurate reports.
• Working knowledge of safe work practices, standard
  equipment, methods, current Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical Code, related
  NFPA and ASHRAE codes and standards, Title 24 Code., OSHA and ADA requirements
  as it relates to the function and ability to recognize discrepancies of ADA and
  Fire/Life/Safety codes at each job.

  technical manuals.

• Ability to stand, walk, crawl, climb, stoop, push, pull, and

  weighing up to 50 pounds from the floor to waist high and rotate the upper
  torso. Ability to wear required PPE.
• Availability to work overtime and various shifts, including
  nights and weekends.
