Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support hospital operations across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and pneumatic tube systems. The role requires on-call duties, weekend coverage, and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies in multiple offsite areas.

Minimum 4 years of large facilities maintenance experience, with knowledge of lab equipment and safety standards. A high school diploma or GED is required; trade school is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; trade school completion preferred.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in a large facilities maintenance environment.
• Ability to read, write, calculate and follow instructions and procedures.
• Knowledge of basic plumbing, heating, electrical, pneumatic tube systems, lab gas systems and mechanical repair principles.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive up to a 24-foot truck.
• On-call rotation required; beeper and cell phone communication.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute for listed requirements.
• On-call response: arrive onsite within 1 hour to troubleshoot pneumatic tube stations.
• Dock coverage and loading/unloading responsibilities for lab departments.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance across plumbing, heating, electrical, and pneumatic tube systems.
• Creates and updates maintenance work orders and records.
• Assists with layout and installation of new work areas and equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance and responds to emergencies as required.
• Maintains safety and cleanliness; adheres to codes and regulations.
• Trains coworkers in maintenance areas as needed.
• Manages parts ordering and coordinates with outside vendors when necessary.
• Responds to on-call requests promptly and documents activities.
