Job summary

UPMC is seeking an Environmental Services Assistant for a part-time evening schedule with weekend/holiday rotation. The role is part of the AFSCME union and involves a broad range of housekeeping duties to maintain a sanitary hospital environment.

Responsibilities include operating equipment safely, cleaning patient areas, moving supplies, and following infection control procedures. High school diploma or GED preferred; prior cleaning experience a plus.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED preferred.
• Prior training in institutional cleaning desired but not necessary; previous experience in similar work preferred.
• Ability to lift and handle heavy to light loads and stand or walk for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Operate departmental cleaning equipment safely and maintain equipment after use.
• Clean and service hospital areas, move furniture and supplies, and maintain sanitary conditions.
• Clean walls, windows, drapes, and fixtures; wash and relin e waste containers and replenish supplies.
• Transport daily assignments and supplies to work areas; return unused items at shift end.
• Use chemicals per guidelines and wear required PPE; disinfect areas per Infection Control procedures.
• Discharge hygiene by cleaning patient rooms after transfers, and handle waste per guidelines.
• Scour, polish, and wash sinks and plumbing fixtures; replace disposables as needed.
• Report mechanical issues and assist with heavy moves when required.
