Job summary

OrthoIndy Hospital Indianapolis seeks a Hospital Admissions Clerk I to support patient registration, scheduling, and insurance coordination in a fast-paced setting. You’ll answer phones, collect payments, verify authorizations, and ensure paperwork is complete for imaging, surgeries, and other services.

This role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to multi-task across multiple systems. Shift: Monday–Friday, 10:30am–7:00pm, in-person at OIH Admissions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • 1-2 years of patient registration experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-registers and registers patients for all hospital services including surgeries, injections, and imaging services.
  • Verifies authorizations for services using Athena for confirmation.
  • Ensures all paperwork, consents, screeners for imaging services, and release forms are completed, signed, and scanned.
  • Verifies insurances and coverage within our network using online tools and the provided insurance grid.
  • Collects and applies patient payments and makes bank deposits as needed.
  • Understand ABN processes and issue ABNs for hospital services including LAB accounts.
  • Answers incoming calls and returns voicemails promptly.
  • Communicates with Support Services for insurance changes and diagnosis code verification; updates Moxee as needed.
  • Checks Medicaid eligibility for hospital services at preregistration and registration.
  • Directs patients’ families and visitors to appropriate areas and coordinates with physicians.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Hospital Admissions Clerk I functions in a fast-paced role that requires attention to detail and
ability to multi-task, including a focus on both the quantity and quality of work. This position performs
registration, scheduling, operates in multiple systems, answers phones, collects payments, and
coordinates benefits with insurance.

  • Pre-registers and registers patients for all hospital services including surgeries, injections, and all Imaging services.
  • Verifies authorizations have been obtained for services by utilizing Athena for
    confirmation of authorization.
  • Ensures all necessary paperwork, including: consents, screeners for imaging services, and release forms are filled out, signed, and scanned for each patient.
  • Verifies and identifies insurances and coverage within our network by utilizing online tools and
    provided insurance grid.
  • Collects and applies all patient payments and makes bank deposits as needed.
  • Responsible for understanding ABN processes, ascertaining whether or not an ABN is needed and issuing ABN’s as necessary for all hospital services, including all LAB accounts.
  • Answers all incoming calls and returns voicemails in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with Support Services staff for all insurance changes and diagnosis code verification and changes as well as update Moxee with changes.
  • Responsible for checking Medicaid eligibility for all hospital services patients at the time of preregistration and registration.
  • Responsible for directing patient’s families and visitors to assigned areas including consultations with the physician, as well as, making sure refreshment areas are cleaned and stocked.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • 1-2 years of patient registration experience preferred
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and high level of accuracy and attention to detail a must
