Job summary

Compassus in Missouri seeks a Chaplain to provide spiritual support to patients and their families, aligning with our Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation. You will collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team to deliver holistic care and to help navigate end-of-life needs.

The role requires hospice training or experience, ability to counsel, work with community clergy, and a commitment to ethical conduct and nondiscrimination in care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Divinity, Social Sciences, or related field preferred.
• Completion of at least one unit of CPE preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience in spiritual/pastoral support.
• Minimum of one year of experience in pastoral support related to loss, grief, bereavement, or trauma preferred.

Responsibilities

• Explains hospice services and Medicare benefits; obtains consent as requested.
• Submits documentation to facilities in a timely manner per policy.
• Articulates the regulatory framework governing spiritual care (federal/state).
• Participates as a member of the IDT and contributes to the plan of care.
• Provides spiritual care to patient and family; coordinates with community clergy as requested.
• Identifies need for intervention by other IDT members.
• Communicates patient and family needs to IDT clearly.
• Coordinates spiritual care with the IDT to ensure continuity and quality.
• Maintains updated care plans reflecting current problems, goals, and interventions.
• Maintains respect for family environment and belief systems; remains nondiscriminatory.
• Counsels in line with patient/family beliefs.
• Supports patient and family through death, grief, and bereavement processes.
• Interacts with clerical community to meet patient/family needs and recruit clerical volunteers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
