Job summary

Dorothy Ley Hospice is seeking a Bereavement and Supportive Care Counsellor (BSCC) to provide psychosocial support, grief counselling, and education to adults and children. The BSCC collaborates with the care team to develop care plans and delivers services virtually, in homes, and at the hospice.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care and culturally sensitive support within a compassionate nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Must have counselling experience in psychosocial care.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and bereavement processes.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assess needs and develop care plans using person-centered approach.
• Provide anticipatory grief support and formal therapeutic counselling.
• Offer one-on-one bereavement support in person or via videoconference.
• Provide grief support to children, teens and young adults.
• Support development of grief programming for youth.
• Facilitate grief or caregiver support groups.
• Identify and respond to risk with clinical team.
• Connect individuals with hospice and external services as needed.
• Deliver education sessions to community groups and partners.
• Collaborate with volunteers and Volunteer Services staff.
• Maintain accurate client records for reporting and quality improvement.
