Job Overview
The Home Project Sales Consultant is the first Builder Backed voice a new Fischer Homes buyer hears, and the person who helps them turn a list of ideas they want done into projects they actually purchase. You will handle inbound project requests and proactively reach new homeowners through the Builder Backed Move-In Consultation, guiding them through the projects that make a new house feel finished: like fences, blinds, concrete sealing, decks or patios, basements, car charging stations, and custom cabinets or closets. Typical project values run from roughly $1,000 to $20,000.
You will carry a quota and forecast against it. Once a project is sold you hand it over to the Deliver team, and you pull in the Scope or Bid teams for assistance on larger projects. That makes accuracy part of the job: what you commit to has to be something Builder Backed can deliver at the price and timeline you set. You will also carry what you hear back upstream to those teams, since you are closest to what homeowners actually want and what stops them from buying.
This is a consultative sale, not a price quote. Success requires discovering how the homeowner intends to live day to day in their new house, then delivering solutions that accomplish the home experience they want: recommending the right project, explaining plainly why it is the right one, and helping them make practical decisions about timing and budget when they cannot do everything at once. As a Home Project Sales Consultant, you will help shape Builder Backed's selling process and culture, with real opportunity for expanded responsibility as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales Plan Delivery: Own and achieve assigned sales and gross-margin quotas, carrying a meaningful portion of Builder Backed's overall sales target.
- Pipeline & Forecast Management: Keep opportunity information accurate and produce a weekly forecast of expected monthly and quarterly sales. Identify risks and gaps against quota early and bring clear actions to close them.
- Homeowner Engagement: Respond promptly to inbound project requests and proactively contact new homeowners to conduct Builder Backed Move-In Consultations.
- Consultative Discovery: Understand how each homeowner intends to live in their new house day to day, along with their priorities, budget, timing, and decision-making process, before recommending anything. Then recommend solutions that fit what you learned.
- Purchase Guidance: Explain project options, benefits, pricing, bundled-project discounts, and purchasing incentives clearly. Help homeowners prioritize and sequence projects when they cannot complete everything at once, so scope, pricing, timing, and next steps are understood before they commit.
- Project Category Expertise: Build real proficiency in our primary move-in project categories, including common materials, options, price ranges, benefits, and the tradeoffs that matter to a homeowner deciding between them.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Present sold projects cleanly to the Deliver team and bring in Scope or Bid on larger projects, so sales commitments are accurate and deliverable. Surface patterns back to those teams: recurring objections, projects homeowners keep asking about, and pricing that keeps landing wrong.
- Process Development: Help establish and improve the sales playbook, tools, standards, and culture, so the function is repeatable and ready for additional sales hires as volume grows.
- Cross-Functional Support: Take on ad-hoc work as the startup environment requires: testing new product features, informing user experience decisions, supporting onboarding during peak volume.
Skills and Qualifications
- Three to five years of sales experience, with a demonstrated ability to carry and consistently achieve an individual quota.
- Experience managing opportunities against monthly and quarterly targets and producing reliable sales forecasts.
- Ability to convert inbound opportunities and to initiate outbound sales conversations proactively.
- Strong consultative selling skills across discovery, listening, presentation, follow-up, and objection handling.
- Comfort discussing pricing and budgets openly, and selling by phone, video call, and in person.
- Discipline in pipeline management, activity tracking, and follow-through without being managed to it.
- Comfort building process in a growth company, balancing homeowner needs against sales and profitability goals.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally for homeowner consultations and in-home meetings.
- Experience selling home improvement, construction, design, real estate, or other high-consideration consumer purchases (preferred).
Compensation
This position is built around a roughly 50% base salary and 50% performance-based structure.
- Base salary: $35,000 to $50,000, based on experience.
- Target incentive compensation: Generally equal to base salary when performance targets are achieved.
- Target total compensation: Approximately $70,000 to $100,000 annually.
- Payment timing: Incentive compensation is paid quarterly.
- Payout threshold: No incentive is paid for a quarter in which attainment falls below 50% of quota.
- Performance measurement: Incentive compensation is based primarily on Builder Backed's retained revenue, meaning our margin rather than the homeowner's total project price, from completed projects you sold, with additional earning opportunity for performance above target.
A formal sales compensation plan will define quota levels, credited sales, gross-margin calculations, payout timing, accelerators, cancellations, refunds, and other administrative rules.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time and walk on various types of terrain, including uneven surfaces, active construction sites, and residential properties that may have mud, ruts, and debris.
- Must be able to utilize sensory skills (i.e. verbal communication) and technology (i.e. cellphone, laptop) to effectively communicate with other Associates, trade partners, and customers.
- Must be able to perform movements such as bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping in order to inspect areas such as basements, crawl spaces, yards, and exterior elevations.
- Must have the ability to climb permanent stairs and temporary stairs.
- Must be able to lift and carry approximately 25 lbs. unassisted, such as samples, displays, and marketing materials.
- Must be able to endure and be exposed to different types of conditions, including weather (heat, cold, rain, ice, etc.) and substances such as dust, dirt, and fumes.
- Must be able to properly use and wear protective gear provided, including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel toed shoes.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel locally to homeowner properties and job sites.
