Job summary

Macomb County is seeking a Part-time Home Maintenance Technician to perform minor household repairs, deep cleaning, and install safety devices in seniors’ homes. You will conduct in-home assessments, schedule visits, and document client referrals while operating a vehicle for travel.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years in construction, and a preferred Michigan Residential Builder's license. A valid Michigan driver’s license and insured vehicle are required.

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Home Maintenance Technician (Part-time) SALARY: $23.31 - $30.15

DEPARTMENT: Office Of Senior Services Opening Date: 10/02/2026 Closing Date: 10/19/2026 12:00 a.m. FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt - overtime pursuant to Human Resources policy EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction, this position is responsible for performing minor household maintenance tasks, heavy-duty cleaning, and installing safety/accessibility devices in the residential homes of older adults living independently in the community. Conducts in-home visits to determine older adults needs and completes housing assessments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs minor household maintenance tasks such as replacing and repairing faucets, broken door locks, and toilet flappers.
  • Performs heavy-duty cleaning such as wall washing, cleaning carpets, and scrubbing floors.
  • Performs installation and maintenance of safety/accessibility devices such as grab bars, handrails, and handheld shower heads.
  • Performs outdoor maintenance such as exterior safety railing and outdoor window washing.
  • Assists in program purchases, inventory, and proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Schedules in-home appointments with clients to inspect homes for defects such as broken door locks, leaking faucets and faulty windows.
  • Completes required documentation for assigned client referrals.
  • Attends meetings, training programs, and seminars as assigned.
  • Promotes and coordinates efforts toward client and agency goals with clients and other agencies.
  • Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience):
  • Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction or building trades
  • Preferred Education and Experience: Michigan Residential Builder's license
  • Required Licenses and/or Certifications: Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel.
