Job summary

Altasciences in Columbia, MO seeks a Histotechnician/Histotechnologist to prepare tissue sections for histopathologic evaluation, supporting research studies. This hands-on role covers tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and H&E staining, with opportunities to learn bone decalcification and specialized necropsy procedures; teamwork and GLP training are emphasized.

A diploma is required; HT(ASCP) eligibility within one year is encouraged; strong documentation and equipment troubleshooting

Qualifications

• High school diploma with at least one year of laboratory experience or relevant training.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
• Eligibility for HT(ASCP) certification within one year of employment.
• Practical skills in microtomy and routine H&E staining.
• Ability to identify tissue types and documents accurately.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for histopathologic evaluation per SOPs.
• Identify and trim fixed tissues with correct orientation.
• Process paraffin embedding and sectioning with proper tissue orientation.
• Perform H&E staining and coverslipping; assess slide quality.
• Troubleshoot equipment and workflow to maintain quality.
• Review data and documentation for accuracy; document deviations.
• Maintain lab safety, inventory, and chemical disposal.
