Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Histotechnician to process surgical specimens, embed tissues, prepare quality slides, and perform routine H&E and special staining in a 8:30pm–5:00am shift. Candidates must have a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician program and an Associate’s Degree with biology and chemistry; HT/HTL (ASCP) certification is preferred, with three years of laboratory experience considered a plus.

This position offers growth within UMMS.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last five years.
• Associate's Degree with biology and chemistry coursework.

Responsibilities

• Process surgical specimens by loading, unloading and programming tissue processors.
• Embed tissue samples with proper orientation.
• Prepare quality slides; perform routine H&E and specialized staining.
• Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System.
• Maintain equipment and logs; assist training of staff.
