Job summary

Mercy Health’s St. Elizabeth Health Center seeks a Histotechnician to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination, ensuring proper sorting, logging and prioritization under supervision.

You will support quality patient care by producing accurate results and maintaining lab standards in a fast-paced setting. Responsibilities include processing, embedding, microtomy and staining; assisting in gross examination and frozen sections; and managing lab inventory while collaborating with

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• AS degree in Histology preferred.
• HT certification preferred (ASCP).

Responsibilities

• Perform histological procedures including accessioning, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining.
• Assist Pathologist in gross examination and frozen sections.
• Report accurate test results to support patient care.
• Document issues impacting test performance and take corrective actions.
• Operate and maintain histology lab equipment and sharpen microtome knives.
• Monitor inventory and place orders for replacements as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
