Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health seeks a Histotechnician for the St. Francis Downtown location. The role involves receiving, processing, and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist, with duties including accessioning, embedding, staining, and troubleshooting under supervision.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED; an AS degree is preferred; HT certification is preferred. Prior histology experience is required for RSFH and beneficial for BSM locations.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or GED (required).
• Associate of Science (preferred).
• Histotechnician (HT) Certification by a nationally recognized agency (preferred).
• BSM: Histology experience preferred, not required.
• RSFH: 2 years Histology experience required.

Responsibilities

• Performs histological procedures including accessioning, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.
• Assists the Pathologist in gross examination and frozen section procedures.
• Reports accurate and timely test results to support patient care.
• Documents problems affecting test performance and performs corrective actions.
• Operates and maintains histology lab equipment, sharpens microtome knives.
• Monitors inventory and orders replacements as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
