Job summary

Katmai in San Diego, CA seeks a Histology Technician to prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination. You will operate tissue processors, embed in paraffin, and cut 2–5 micron sections, ensuring quality and accurate QC records.

Requires NAACLS/ABHES histology program completion and HT-ASCP/HTL-ASCP certification, plus 1+ year experience. Must handle equipment safely, maintain documentation, and support transport of specimens to the lab.

Qualifications

Graduate from a histology technician program accredited by NAACLS or ABHES or ASCP-acceptable program.
HT-ASCP/HTL-ASCP certification required.
At least 1 year of histotech experience in the last 3 years.
Knowledge of histochemical and immunohistochemical principles and methods.
Expert use and maintenance of histology equipment (microtomes, tissue processors, balances, automated stainers and microscopes).
Active BLS certification.

Responsibilities

Load and manage reagent use on automated tissue processors.
Embed tissue in paraffin blocks.
Section tissue with rotary microtome to 2–5 micron thickness.
Perform quality control on equipment, reagents and products, and maintain records.
Prepare specimens for transport to lab or mailing.
Prepare biological waste for disposal.
Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
