Saint Mary's Hospital is seeking a part-time Histotechnologist responsible for preparing and processing tissue specimens for diagnosis. The role involves working closely with Pathologists and maintaining quality control in lab processes, requiring an Associate's Degree and certification. What you will do:
Assisting the Pathologist in the gross surgical specimen examination. Accurately labeling and embedding surgical and autopsy cases.
Cutting and mounting surgical and autopsy cases. Staining specimens with H & E and special stains as required.
Preparing and staining specimens for immunohistochemical studies.
Receiving and preparing specimens to be sent to a reference laboratory.
Filling all gross specimens, paraffin blocks and slides derived from surgical and autopsy specimens.
Utilizing existing QC/QA program as required by regulatory agencies. Assisting in the inspection by all regulatory agencies.
Entering diagnostic results into the laboratory computer. Maintaining and trouble shooting all instruments in the section.
Position Hours:
Per Diem - Must be available to work full day shifts for on-site training and EPIC Training, once training is complete can work weekends and/or evenings.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate's Degree with courses in the biological sciences; 2 years' histology-related experience orformal training in all phases of histology, except electron microscopy.
Preferred.
HT Certification in Histology by accrediting agency.
Proficient in the use and limitations of all equipment in anatomical pathology.
