Job summary

Dignity Health – Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Histotechnician to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic analysis by pathologists. The role involves sectioning, staining, and handling specimens in a busy hospital laboratory.

Responsibilities include managing supplies, processing specimens, and maintaining equipment. Strong English communication and customer service skills are essential. Prior histology experience is preferred; AA degree and CA CPT I license are valued.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year clinical lab experience including instrument operation and specimen processing.
• Two years of training in a histology lab.
• Reading, writing and speaking English is required.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.
• Five years of clinical lab experience or two years college preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administrative duties in pathology lab.
• Monitors and reorders supplies; procures reagents/equipment.
• Answers inquiries regarding pathology matters.
• Processes specimens and verifies patient information.
• Labels requisitions, specimens and cassettes with the correct specimen number.
• Records descriptive data in the computer system.
• Maintains clean work area and instruments.
• Prepares fixative solutions and containers for other departments as needed.
