Job summary

Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI, is seeking a Histotechnician to perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining for surgical and autopsy specimens. The role requires ASCP HT certification within a year and 1–2 years of histology experience.

Qualifications

• HT/ASCP Histotechnician certification within one year of hire.
• 2+ years histology experience in a clinical lab (preferred).
• Experience with immunohistochemistry staining and frozen section procedures (preferred).
• Familiarity with CAP, CLIA, OSHA regulatory standards for laboratory operations (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform tissue fixation, processing, embedding, and sectioning.
• Cut tissue sections with a microtome and place on slides per policy.
• Perform H&E and special stain procedures.
• Perform immunohistochemistry stains per procedures.
• Maintain and operate lab equipment; ensure quality control.
• Label, file, and store tissue blocks and slides.
• Assist with quality assurance and participate in inspections and competency assessments.
• Follow CAP/CLIA/OSHA safety and compliance procedures.
• Communicate with Histology Supervisor, Pathologists, and team members.
• Perform supply and chemical inventories.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
