Job summary

Advocate Health's IL Central Lab: Histology is hiring a full-time histology technician for a 3rd shift (Mon-Fri, 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.) to support specimen accessioning, tissue processing, staining, and slide preparation in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

No prior experience required; advanced science training is acceptable. The role offers comprehensive benefits and a strong team focused on quality and patient care.

Qualifications

• Advanced training beyond high school in a science-related field.
• No experience required.
• Laboratory safety knowledge.
• Proficient with lab equipment and staining procedures.

Responsibilities

• Accession and label specimens for testing.
• Cut tissue sections to appropriate thickness.
• Embed tissue in paraffin blocks and manage slides.
• Process tissue with paraffin for preservation.
• Perform stains, immunohistochemistry, cover slips, and distribution of slides.
• Manage daily workflow for recuts, stains, IHC, controls, and send-outs.
• Document quality control and take corrective action under supervision.
• Maintain and clean equipment; assist pathologists during procedures.
• Ensure compliance with accrediting standards.
• Support pathologists and team members.
