Job summary

BayCare Health System in Tampa seeks a Histologist to prepare and process tissue specimens for diagnostic review. You will oversee tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and ensure regulatory compliance. This is a PRN on-site role at St. Joseph’s Hospital & St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.

The position offers day shifts, a collaborative laboratory environment, and opportunities to advance in histology with ASCP certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Histotechnology program or related technical training preferred.
• Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
• ASCP Certified Histotechnician (HT) required; additional ASCP certifications encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of tissue processing from fixation through final slide preparation.
• Perform embedding, sectioning, staining, and special histology techniques.
• Maintain laboratory files, records, and documentation required by regulatory agencies.
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Monitor and restock laboratory supplies to support workflow needs.
• Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance across all histology processes.
• Support timely preparation of specimens for diagnostic use.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Role Overview
