Job summary

Sonic Healthcare USA in Dallas, TX is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead the histology staff and ensure adherence to quality standards in a patient-centric laboratory environment.

The role requires an Associate degree in Histology and 5 years of histology experience (4+ post-degree), with HT/HTL ASCP preferred. You will oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and compliance while collaborating with pathologists and clients.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Histology, Biology, Chemistry or another related field.
• 5 years of experience in histology, including at least 4 years after earning a relevant degree.
• HT or HTL (ASCP) certification is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
• Must be detail-oriented and have high integrity and discipline.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff: hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, directing and appraising the work of assigned staff.
• Hold regularly scheduled one on ones with direct reports on at least a monthly basis.
• Advocate for direct reports regarding ideas being heard and career progression planning.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and SOPs; maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Maintain proficiency and training requirements; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Participate in inventory management, special projects and other duties assigned by management.
• Assist in staff development and training.
• Support Lab Manager with documentation and inspections preparation.
• Communicate with pathologists and clients regarding lab issues and histology workflows.
• Monitor laboratory quality indicators and answer technical questions from pathologists and clients.

In this role, you will:

• Performs tasks normally associated with supervision such as hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, directing and appraising the work of assigned staff


• Hold regularly scheduled one on ones with direct reports on at least a monthly basis

• Assists the Lab Manager in the maintenance/upkeep of documentation and records and preparation for inspections.


• Communicate with pathologists regarding laboratory issues, client's needs, and respond quickly and efficiently to concerns/feedback regarding histology within the lab.


• Track and monitor laboratory quality indicators.


• Answer technical questions from pathologists and clients regarding lab processes and histology workflows.


• Independently and proactively identify problems in the laboratory and institute appropriate corrective actions.


• Ensure operational compliance with the laboratory's SOPs and Quality Management Systems.


• Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.

Requirements

• Possesses an Associate degree in Histology, Biology, Chemistry or another related field


• 5 years of experience in the histology field including at least 4 years of experience gained after earning a relevant degree


• HT or HTL (ASCP) certification is preferred
