Job summary

CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking a Histologist for processing, staining, and handling surgical and cytology specimens. The role includes data entry into LIS, slide preparation, and collaboration with pathologists to ensure high-quality diagnostic materials.

The position requires completion of a CAC/NAACLS accredited histotechnology program and demonstrates adherence to CLIA, CAP, and Joint Commission standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Completion of an accredited Histotechnology Program by CAHEA/NAACLS or military equivalent required.
• Successful completion of the core educational curriculum “Excellence at the Front End” required within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens/slides/blocks for referral and ensure timely processing per policy.
• Collect, process, and store surgical/cytological specimens and enter data into LIS.
• Maintain grossing area, lab equipment, and supply inventory; perform routine QC per CLIA/CAP/JCAHO guidelines.
• Perform stains and immunostains, and assist pathologists with frozen sections and autopsies.
• Follow safety, infection control, and hazardous materials protocols and participate in inspections.
