Job summary

Abington Memorial Hospital seeks an experienced Histology Laboratory Manager to lead and supervise all administrative, technical, and fiscal activities of the Histology Lab. The role ensures accuracy and reliability of testing, staff development, budgeting, and policy implementation across the department.

The candidate will manage performance, ensure operational efficiencies, establish QA/QC criteria, and develop guidelines to maintain high standards of care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent.
• 7 years clinical laboratory experience.
• Intermediate computer level.
• Preferred: Master’s degree, supervisory experience, CP-BC (Clinical Pathologist) Board Certification.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Leads Supervisors, Histotechnicians, Histotechnologists to maintain a high-functioning department, including staff development and competence.
• Responsible for performance management for supervisory, technical, and support staff, including annual appraisals, hiring/terminations, and disciplinary actions.
• Ensures department operational efficiencies through appropriate staffing and fiscal accountability.
• Establishes criteria and templates for acceptable analytical performance, including validity of specimens, testing, QA/QC, and results reporting.
• Develops laboratory guidelines and procedure manuals to ensure effective instrument use and testing quality control.
• Prepares budget in consultation with director to allocate expenses and maintain operations within budgetary guidelines.
• Plans and manages all lab activities in alignment with department and hospital goals.
• Performs other duties related to laboratory services as assigned.
