Job summary

The University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is seeking a Section Manager for the Histology Laboratory, including IHC and CWD labs, to provide leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight.

You will ensure high-quality diagnostic services, collaborate with pathologists and researchers, and lead quality systems, safety, and compliance efforts in a fast-paced veterinary diagnostic environment in Saint Paul, MN.

Qualifications

• BS degree plus at least six years of experience in histology or immunohistochemistry; advanced degree may reduce required experience
• Knowledge of QA/QC principles, accreditation standards (e.g., AAVLD), and regulatory requirements
• Experience leading a histology/IHC lab team and managing budgets and staff workflows

Responsibilities

• Lead Budgets: develop, monitor, and justify Histology Lab budgets and staffing needs.
• Strategic planning: implement plans to improve operations and expand diagnostic services.
• Monitor workload, turnaround times, and staffing to optimize efficiency.
• Provide diagnostic services and oversee procedures, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate with pathologists and investigators and serve as liaison with other labs.
• Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
