Job summary

The University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) seeks a Section Manager for Laboratory Receiving and Parasitology to lead daily operations, ensure high-quality diagnostic testing, and manage staff and resources. The role emphasizes biosafety, process improvement, and collaboration with clinicians and researchers to support animal health and disease surveillance.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree plus five years of related experience, or a total of nine years with education.
• Experience in a clinical, veterinary diagnostic, public health, or research lab.
• Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
• Effective communication and collaboration with staff, veterinarians, and researchers.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and operational oversight for Laboratory Receiving and Parasitology sections.
• Hire, onboard, train, schedule, assign work, evaluate performance and coach staff.
• Oversee evaluation, accessioning, tracking, and distribution of incoming specimens.
• Coordinate client communication, shipping, billing issues, and front desk operations.
• Supervise parasitology operations and ensure accurate testing and reporting.
• Lead QA/QC activities, SOP adherence, and regulatory compliance.
