Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Histologic Technician II for the Anatomic Pathology department at the Winston Campus. The role is full-time on the night shift (Mon–Fri), with potential move to four 10-hour days, serving the Winston campus.

Required are an AS degree or equivalent with training per ASCP/NSH guidelines; 3 years in a clinical histology lab is preferred, HT (ASCP) certification is a plus. This position emphasizes accurate processing, staining, and specimens handling.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in applied science or high school diploma/GED with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the ASCP and NSH.
• Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
• HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
• Assures accurate and timely accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens, according to departmental practices.
• Assures accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens, according to departmental practices.
• Provides maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens.
• Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
• Performs additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures.
• Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
• Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
• Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
• Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.

Education
