Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Histologic Technician II in Anatomic Pathology for a full-time, night shift position at the Winston Campus in Winston-Salem, NC. The role includes embedding and processing of specimens on a 3rd shift with potential movement to 4x10s.

Required qualifications include an associate degree or equivalent training with ASCP NSH certification preferred; three years in a clinical histology lab is preferred. Join a team focused on accurate, timely histology services.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in applied science or HS diploma with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the ASCP and NSH.
  • Three years’ experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
  • HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to hospital standards and promotes a cooperative work environment.
  • Accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens accurately and timely.
  • Processing and staining of specimens accurately and timely.
  • Provides maximum care in identification procedures for patient specimens.
  • Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
  • Performs additional Anatomic Pathology laboratory procedures.
  • Maintains ongoing self-education to improve skills.

Education/Experience/Certifications To Qualify
  • Associate's degree in applied science or high school diploma/GED with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the National Society of Histotechnology.
  • Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
  • HT (ASCP) certification preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
  • Assures accurate and timely accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens, according to departmental practices.
  • Assures accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens, according to departmental practices.
  • Provides maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens.
  • Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
  • Performs additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures.
  • Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
  • Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
  • Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
