Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock invites applicants for a Histologic Assistant to provide technical support in the histology laboratory. You will receive and accession diagnostic tissue samples, process specimens, and assist with embedding, sectioning, staining, and immunohistochemistry.

The role requires a High School Diploma, chemistry/biology coursework preferred, and histology coursework preferred.

Histologic Assistant

Position Description

This position is responsible for providing technical support in thehistology laboratory to include receiving and handling ofdiagnostic patient tissue samples. Receives and accessions grosstissue specimens and prepares for analysis. Performs frozensectioning of fresh tissue and decalcifies bone specimens. Sortsand discards unused tissue samples. Maintains laboratory equipment.Prepares fixative and reagents and recycles used reagents.Maintains documentation procedures that are required to insurequality and continuity of laboratory work. Specimen collection;tissue embedding; microtomy; routine H&E staining; slidecoverslipping; tissue processing; performing special stains andimmunohistochemistry staining; computer entry. Maintainsdocumentation procedures that are required to insure quality andcontinuity of Laboratory work. Maintains accurate filing ofparaffin blocks and slides for later retrieval. Adheres to theInstitutional and departmental safety polices.
