Job summary

Orthopaedic Associates of Maine is seeking a detail-oriented Health Information Management Specialist to support the accuracy and security of patient health information. You will process release of information requests, maintain EMR records, and ensure HIPAA compliance while delivering excellent service to patients and providers.

In this daytime, on-site role in Portland, ME you will handle calls, scan and index documents, manage electronic fax folders, and assist patients with record requests,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years in a medical office, hospital, or healthcare setting preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and medical records processes.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy requirements.
• Strong customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record systems.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

• Process release of information requests in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
• Review patient records for accuracy and completeness.
• Scan, index, and maintain documents within the EMR.
• Manage electronic fax folders and outgoing referrals.
• Assist patients with medical record requests.
• Handle incoming departmental phone calls and mail.
