Job summary

Merit Health - River Region is seeking a Director of Health Information Management (HIM) to oversee the HIM department’s operational success, including Unbilled/Revenue Cycle, MPI, imaging and ROI. Lead policy enforcement, accreditation readiness, and data quality while supervising staff and collaborating with privacy and IT teams.

The role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and experience with HIPAA compliance; RHIT/RHIA certifications are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Health Information Management required.
• 7+ years of direct HIM experience or equivalent, with time to obtain an Associates.
• RHIT/RHIA certifications pursued or required.
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and reports incomplete and delinquent medical records to leadership.
• Tracks HIM KPIs and leads improvement plans.
• Oversees discharge record processing for continuity of care.
• Chairs or co-chairs the Facility Forms Committee for standardization.
• Coordinates MPI integrity and demographic data validation.
• Oversees imaging and chart management; ensures timely scanning and indexing.
• Supports ROI processes with HIPAA and state privacy compliance.
• Collaborates with IT/EHR to resolve data integrity issues.
• Maintains regular attendance and complies with policies.
