Job summary

Southwest Healthcare is seeking a Health Information Management (HIM) Coding and System Specialist to manage inpatient and outpatient bill-holds and support timely coding. You will collaborate across departments to resolve missing documentation and ensure accurate data submissions for OSHPD requirements.

Ideal candidates have 2–3 years in Medical Records, a terminology course, and familiarity with state/federal release of information laws.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree in Medical Records Science preferred.
• Completion of an introductory Medical Terminology course required.
• Two to Three years of experience in Medical Records preferred.
• Knowledge of State and Federal release of information laws preferred.

Responsibilities

• Daily operation of inpatient and outpatient bill-holds to assist the Coding section.
• Identify accounts not coded to date and follow up accordingly.
• Research reasons for unbilled accounts and coordinate with departments.
• Collaborate with Physician Liaison to add incomplete records to suspension process.
• Monitor coding support work lists for pending documentation.
• Ensure data accuracy in the HIM Department (duplicate encounters, moving charges).
• Provide backup coverage for correcting Standard Edits and OSHPD reporting.
• Attend department meetings and maintain patient confidentiality.

Education

High School Graduate or equivalent

Associate’s degree in Medical Records Science

Completion of Medical Terminology course

2–3 years of experience in Medical Records

Knowledge of State and Federal release of information laws
