Job summary

Great Plains Health seeks an HIM Coding Specialist to assign accurate ICD-9/10-CM and CPT codes, ensuring proper DRG assignment and comprehensive documentation. The role works within Health Information Management to maintain coding integrity and support audits.

The ideal candidate has AHIMA credentials (RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CCA) and preferably an HIM/HIT degree, with ongoing professional development and coding system proficiency.

Qualifications

• AHIMA accreditation required or in progress.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CCA AHIMA accreditation preferred.
• HIM/HIT degree preferred if accreditation completed within 6 months.
• AHIMA membership preferred.

Responsibilities

• Code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9/10-CM and CPT.
• Assign codes in proper sequence to determine DRG.
• Review medical records for documentation adequacy.
• Utilize Affinity, 3M Encoder, and ChartMaxx.
• Assist in audits and ongoing education.
