Job summary

Hays Medical Center is seeking a HIM Coder II to join our coding team. This role codes outpatient, single path surgical, ED, and ambulatory accounts, reviewing health records to abstract and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for reimbursement and research.

Open to candidates in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio, and Louisiana, the position requires 1–2 years of professional coding experience and AHIMA or AAPC credentials.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• AHIMA or AAPC coding credential (CPC, COC, COC-A, CIC, or CCA, CPC-A, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA) required.
• 1–2 years coding experience in professional coding and/or ICD-10 CM/PCS required.

Responsibilities

• Reads and reviews health records to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for outpatient and professional charges.
• Abstracts clinical data and ensures accurate coding for reimbursement and research.
• Keeps up to date on coding policies and regulations.
• Collaborates with teams to improve coding accuracy and throughput.
• Provides feedback to providers on coding and documentation.
