Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer in Irvine, CA to design and implement HIL test systems for automotive controllers. You will work with firmware teams, platform groups, and hardware teams to simulate real-world conditions and validate design specifications.

The role emphasizes rapid root-cause analysis, electrical safety compliance, and hands-on development with tools like DSPACE, NI VeriStand, CANoe, and CANalyzer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical & electronics engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop test systems or development with tools such as DSPACE and NI VeriStand.
  • 2 years of experience with embedded control systems, vehicle subsystems, or HIL technologies.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices, including high voltage where applicable.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with rapid root cause identification and corrective action.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hardware failure analysis to determine root causes of HIL failures and document lessons learned.
  • Develop and propose HIL infrastructure improvements to increase test coverage.
  • Work with HIL firmware engineers to evaluate HIL hardware APIs for simulation needs.

Job description

  • Design and develop Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) test systems for embedded vehicle controllers.

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in electrical & electronics engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop test systems, or development work in tools such as DSPACE and NI VeriStand.
  • 2 years of experience working with embedded control systems, vehicle subsystems, or HIL technologies.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices, including high voltage where applicable.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with focus on rapid root cause identification and corrective action implementation.
  • Proficiency in automation scripting and control design using Python (Pytest) is a plus.
  • Experience creating requirements from the ground up, using engineering analysis, with a strong focus on hardware.
  • Experience with communication protocols including CAN, XCP, LIN, FlexRay, CAN-FD and CAN over Ethernet.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proven track record using a first-principles engineering approach.
  • Familiarity with DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes and crimp tools.
  • Experience with vehicle communication bus tools such as CANalyzer/CANoe.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Experience with issue tracking tools such as Jira and Bugzilla.
