Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks a highways intern in Richmond, VA to assist with design tasks, documentation, and project support. The role emphasizes practical experience in transportation projects, site involvement, and collaboration with architects, engineers, and designers.

Qualifications

• Full-time student pursuing an ABET accredited undergraduate degree in civil engineering.
• Interest in transportation projects and highway design.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior team with basic design tasks, including research and layout support.
• Prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, graphics, and construction phases.
• Support creation of presentation and marketing materials.
• Assist with site visits, RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and updating record drawings.
• Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed.
• Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices.
• Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience.
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and other multidisciplinary team members.
