Job summary

State of Indiana is hiring a Highway Technician for INDOT’s New Haven Unit to maintain Indiana highways and interstates. The role involves safety-focused maintenance, snow and ice operations, and occasional traffic control during emergencies.

The position starts at an hourly rate of $20.00 with potential CDL-based increments; CDL training is provided onsite. This entry-level role offers overtime opportunities and room for advancement.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days.
• Pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities for long periods.
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Operate basic highway maintenance/traffic equipment.
• Ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations including snow/ice removal.
• Assist with emergency response such as lane closures and signs.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance and pre-trip checks.
• Maintain, repair, and install traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Receive and inventory materials for distribution.
• Maintain inventory records and operate new inventory system.
